Thirteen fishermen are missing after a fishing trawler sank in the Bay of Bengal at Hatiya in Noakhali. 4 people were rescued alive in this incident. The houses of the missing fishermen are in different unions of Hatia Upazila of Noakhali.
The fishermen who were rescued alive on Tuesday afternoon confirmed this information.
Basendha Lutfullahil Mojib Nishan of Hathia Jahazmara Amtali village, the owner of the trawler, said that the trawler sank in the Bay of Bengal in the south of Patuakhali district on Tuesday afternoon. Later, a nearby trawler rescued the four fishermen and brought them to Mohipur in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district. The rescued fishermen gave this news on mobile on Tuesday afternoon.
He said that efforts are not being made to rescue trawlers and missing fishermen due to rough seas due to adverse weather conditions.
Locals said that the trawler named MV Nishan went fishing in the sea with 17 sailors from Jahazmara Amtali Ghat last week. All the sailors in the trawler belong to different unions of Hatia upazila.

Russell said, among the four people who were rescued alive, one of the trawler’s crew. Shamim (45). He was contacted on mobile. Shamim told him that the trawler overturned due to the storm. Four people including him were rescued by another trawler. But the others are unlikely to survive as they are all inside the cabin. As the sea is rough, no trawler can go there.
Masum Billah, chairman of Hatia Jahazmara UP, said that the trawler that was affected by the accident is from Jahazmara Amtali Ghat. Of the 13 missing prisoners, 5 have their homes in Jahazmara Amtali village. The house of other 8 people is in Ward No. 5 of Harani Union of the same upazila. Mourning is going on in everyone’s house.
In this regard, SI Masud, in-charge of Hatiya Jahazmara outpost police station, said, I have heard the incident of the trawler sinking in the sea and the fishermen disappearing. The incident will happen somewhere near Patuakhali district. But no one has said anything in writing so far.
