Shakib Al Hasan is the captain of the Bangladesh national team until the T20 World Cup. Jalal Yunus, the new chairman of BCB’s cricket operations committee, told the media. Shakib’s T20 captaincy phase will begin in the second term with the Asia Cup.
After returning home from the US last night, Shakib held a meeting at the BCB president’s residence shortly after three o’clock today. Where BCB Cricket Management Department Head Jalal Yunus, Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Habibul Bashar Sumon, Team Director Khaled Mahmud Sujan were present.
Jalal Yunus, head of BCB’s cricket management department, later said, “We captained Shakib till the Asia Cup, tri-series and the World Cup.”
So far 8 cricketers have led in T20 for Bangladesh. Five of them got permanent captaincy. In 2006 Shahriar Nafees captained the first T20 match of Bangladesh. The left-handed batsman led the team in that one match, winning the team against Zimbabwe.
Apart from this, Mahmudullah Riyad captained the most 43 matches. Mashrafe Bin Mortuza 28, Mushfiqur Rahim 23, Shakib Al Hasan 21 and Mohammad Ashraful led the way in 11 matches. Liton Das and Mosaddek Hossain Saikat captained one match each.
