The first cargo ship to leave a Ukrainian port has reached its pre-determined destination in Syria. Planet Labs analyzed PBC’s satellite images, according to news agency AP.
Earlier last July, an agreement was signed between Russia and Ukraine under the diplomatic initiative of Turkey and the United Nations to resume grain exports from Ukraine. The agreement was also signed by Turkey and the United Nations. It was under this agreement that the ship reached Syria. Al-Jazeera gave this news on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the news of the Ukrainian ship arriving in Syria surprised many. Because Syria is a close ally of Russia and the country has severed diplomatic relations with Ukraine. Before the start of the Ukraine-Russia war, Syria used to import grain from Russian-occupied territories.
Earlier, when the grain cargo ship left the port of Odessa, Kiev hailed it as a sign that it could safely export its agricultural products. Now it was reported that the country’s ship named Rajoni has arrived in Syria.
On February 24, Russia started a military operation in Ukraine. After that, the export of food grains from Ukraine stopped. This raises global food prices and puts millions at risk of starvation. To overcome that crisis, the United Nations and Turkey tried to export food grains to Ukraine again.
