A 22-hour curfew has been imposed in Gopalganj from Wednesday (July 16) at 8 PM until Thursday (July 17) at 6 PM. This information was confirmed by the Press Wing of the Chief Advisor on Wednesday.
It is noteworthy that around 2:45 PM on Wednesday, an attack occurred on the motorcade of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) while they were returning from a public meeting in Gopalganj. NCP leaders have alleged that leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its banned student wing, Chhatra League, carried out the attack. Gopalganj turned into a battlefield during the incident.
To bring the situation under control, police and military forces opened fire. Their vehicles were also attacked during the chaos. Following the incident, NCP leaders took shelter in government buildings.
Earlier, around 1:30 PM, Chhatra League reportedly attacked the stage of the NCP rally held at the Municipal Park in Gopalganj town. They vandalized the sound system, microphones, chairs, and assaulted the NCP leaders and activists present at the venue. Shortly after leaving the Municipal Park, the NCP convoy came under attack again.
The leaders later took refuge at the office of the Superintendent of Police. They were eventually rescued from there by law enforcement agencies.
