The hearing of the Islamic Foundation’s Zakat fund embezzlement case against Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Saeedee, who was sentenced to life for crimes against humanity in 1971, has been postponed.

On Monday, the money embezzlement case was scheduled to be heard in the court of Judge Syeda Hosne Arar of the temporary Dhaka number one special judge court set up on the Bakshibazar Alia Madrasa ground in Old Dhaka. But Saeedee was not produced in court as he was physically ill.

Later, in view of the application made by the accused seeking postponement of the testimony, the court fixed September 6.

Among the accused, Delawar Hossain Sayeedi is in Kashimpur Jail. Abul Kalam Azad and Abdul Haque absconding. The remaining three accused are on bail.

Ayub Ali Chowdhury, the former Director (Finance and Accounts) of the Islamic Foundation, filed a case against 6 people at the Sherebangla Nagar Police Station on May 24, 2010, for embezzling 1 crore 27 lakhs from the Zakat fund of the Islamic Foundation.

After investigating the case, ACC Assistant Director Wazed Ali Ghazi submitted the charge sheet to the court on April 30, 2012. The same court framed charges against 6 people including Saeedi.
