The first ship carrying grain has arrived in Africa from Ukraine. Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24. Then the export of grain from Ukraine was stopped for a long time. The first shipment of grain arrived at a Red Sea port in Djibouti for the first time since the start of the war. BBC news.
23,000 tons of wheat has been carried on the Lebanese flagged MV Brave Commander. The ship is supposed to go to Ethiopia. It took the ship two weeks to reach Africa from the Black Sea.
Djibouti is a small country in East Africa. Its population is about 9 lakhs. But nowadays it has become the busiest port in Africa.
According to the United Nations Food Program (WFP), it takes about a week for wheat to be packaged and transported by land from Djibouti to Ethiopia. About 2 crore people there are in urgent need of food aid.
This shipment was paid for by WFP. Because conflict and drought have begun to reduce the supply of much-needed aid to refugees and displaced people. Before the war, the agency received three-quarters of its food aid from Ukraine and Russia.
Meanwhile, during the war, Ukraine exported 1 million tons of food products under the grain agreement brokered by Turkey and the United Nations. These products were exported through the Black Sea port. Recently the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed this information.
Food products have been exported in 44 ships to 15 countries. More food products will be sent to different countries in the next few days. He said, Kiev has a goal of exporting three lakh tons of food products in a month.
