Two Friends Opened Their Eyes.jpg

Two Bangladeshi students, Rajid Ayman (20) and Hasibul Hasan Chowdhury (21), who were critically injured in a terrible road accident while pursuing higher education in South Korea, have finally opened their eyes after 12 long days. However, they are still unable to recognize anyone. At present, they are undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Wonju city, South Korea.

Earlier, on the night of August 27 at around 11 p.m., Rajid, Hasibul, and another person were severely injured in a scooter accident in Wonju city.

They were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Following doctors’ advice, Rajid and Hasibul were immediately kept in the ICU.

Injured Rajid Ayman is the son of Md. Nannu Mia Master from Fatehabad village of Debidwar municipality in Cumilla district. The other student, Hasibul Hasan Chowdhury, is the son of Md. Omar Faruk Chowdhury of Dhamati village in Dhamati Union of the same upazila.

The third injured person, Shihab, is from Burichang upazila of the district, but detailed information about him has not yet been confirmed.

It is known that Rajid and Hasibul were very close friends from childhood. They studied at the same school and were always seen together. In 2022, both of them scored Golden GPA-5 in their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams and went to South Korea with the dream of higher education.

They enrolled in the BBA department of Kyungdong University in South Korea and also studied the Korean language. Although they applied without initially informing their families, later their families supported their decision to pursue higher education abroad.

Rajid’s cousin, Ahmed Shuvo, said: “They were both very polite, talented, and hardworking students. Since childhood, they were always seen together. Going abroad for higher education was their long-cherished dream.”

Rajid’s father said: “Yesterday my son opened his eyes, regained consciousness, and is slowly starting to breathe on his own. However, doctors have said that because of severe head injuries, we were not allowed to see him on video call anymore. Plastic surgery has been done on his forehead and head. My son had so many dreams. Please pray for him so that he recovers and can return home.”

Hasibul Hasan’s uncle, Md. Forhad Chowdhury, said: “Hasibul opened his eyes after 12 days, but he still cannot recognize anyone. He has suffered severe head injuries and is speaking incoherently. We are trying to send someone to Korea for his treatment, and the visa process is ongoing. His parents are constantly in tears, shattered by their son’s condition.”
