The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a storm warning for four key regions of the country, cautioning that temporary gusty or squally winds could reach speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour by Tuesday afternoon. The advisory, valid until 1 PM today, applies specifically to inland river ports across the affected areas.
According to the BMD forecast, areas including Rangpur, Dinajpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet are expected to be affected. The storms are likely to come from the west or northwest direction, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms and wind speeds ranging from 45 to 60 km/h.
In light of this, river ports in these areas have been instructed to hoist cautionary signal number 1, alerting small vessels and port authorities to take necessary precautions.
In a related forecast issued Monday night, the Meteorological Department warned of potential rain and thunder activity across multiple divisions.
Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions could experience moderate weather disruptions, while isolated spots in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions may also face short-term gusty winds, lightning, and scattered showers. Some areas could even see isolated hailstorms.
Authorities urge people living in the affected regions to remain cautious and stay updated with weather alerts. Travelers, fishermen, and small boat operators are especially advised to avoid venturing out during the storm period.
Emergency services and local disaster response units have also been put on alert to respond to any untoward incidents due to adverse weather conditions.
As seasonal weather patterns continue to bring unpredictable changes, this storm advisory highlights the importance of real-time meteorological updates for public safety. Citizens are encouraged to follow guidelines issued by the BMD and take appropriate measures to stay safe.
