Australia won gold in Commonwealth Games women’s cricket. The Indian women’s cricket team won the silver medal after losing to Australia by just 9 runs in the gold medal match in Birmingham. In response to Australia’s 161 runs, India were all out for 152 runs with three balls in hand. Meanwhile, the women of New Zealand won the third bronze.

Australia won the toss and batted first at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Ajira lost their first wicket in the dismissal of Alice Healy. Beth Mooney and Meg Lanning put on a 74-run stand for the second wicket. The duo broke when skipper Lanning was run-out. Lanning returned with 36 off 26 balls. From then on, Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the middle order, only Ashley Gardner scored 25 runs off 15 balls and Rachel Haines scored 18 runs off 10 balls to reach double figures. Muni’s innings of 61 runs from 41 balls allowed Australia to collect a fighting 161 runs.

In reply, India lost both openers by 22 runs. Jemima Rodriguez and Harmanpreet Kar put India on the road to victory with a 116-run stand for the third wicket. The pair broke up when Jemima went bold. He scored 33 runs off 33 balls. Harmanpreet also departed in the next over. He played an innings of 65 runs off 43 balls.

After Harmanpreet’s departure, India lost wickets at regular intervals. India lost 8 wickets in the last 34 runs and were all out for 152 runs. They lost the match by 9 runs. As a result, Australia won gold in the cricket category of Commonwealth Games 2022. India got silver.
