US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas paid a courtesy call on Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar at his office on Tuesday. During the meeting, they exchanged views on issues related to telecommunication facilities between embassy officials and employees for communication in Rohingya camps, in addition to various issues related to bilateral interests.

This information was informed in a press release of the Department of Telecommunications.

The Posts and Telecommunications Minister said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, revolutionary changes have been initiated in Bangladesh in the last 13 years with the implementation of the Digital Bangladesh Program.

He said, ITU is an important global organization in the telecommunication sector. Bangabandhu sowed the seeds of the digital revolution in this agrarian country by gaining membership of the ITU in 1973 and setting up a geo-satellite station at Betbunya on 14 June 1975. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina transformed the seeds planted by Bangabandhu into success during her 18-year rule. The US ambassador praised Bangladesh’s progress in developing digital connectivity, especially in various sectors including the country’s telecommunication sector.
