United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michel Bachelet is coming to Bangladesh on a four-day visit. This is the first visit of a human rights chief to Bangladesh.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the visit and said in a press release that he will arrive in Bangladesh on Sunday.

It also said that in addition to the meeting with the government ministers, Michel will exchange views with the National Human Rights Commission, youth representatives, civil society representatives and academicians.

The ministry also informed that on August 15 mourning day, they will pay tribute at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Museum in Dhanmondi.

Besides, Michelle will meet the Rohingyas who fled from Myanmar in the refugee camp of Cox’s Bazar.

Officials of the ministry said that apart from separate meetings with the Foreign Minister, Home Minister and Law Minister, there is also a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Since August 2018, the former president of Chile, Michel Bachelet, has been the UN human rights chief.
