The Wildlife Crime Prevention Unit of the Forest Department has filed a case against the director of the film ‘Hawa’, Mezbaur Rahman Sumon, for violating the Wildlife Conservation and Safety Act-2012.

This application was filed in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Wednesday. Wildlife inspector Nargis Sultana filed the petition as the plaintiff.

Wildlife Crime Unit Wildlife Inspector Asim Mallick confirmed this to Samakal.

He said, in the application of the case, a compensation of 20 crore rupees has been sought. However, the court accepted the application and did not order any investigation. There may be an order in this regard next week.

According to the court sources, the petition has been accused of violating Sections 38 (1-2), 41 and 46 of the Wildlife Conservation and Safety Act-2012. Three people have been witnessed in this. These are Abdullah As Sadiq, Asim Mallik and Rathindra Kumar Biswas working in the investigation committee.

The film Hawa was released on July 29. A review of the film published in a national daily after its release stated that Chanchal Chowdhury, who played the role of Chan Majhi, killed and chewed a bird in the film.

After the release of reviews, many people alleged that the film Hawa had violated the Wildlife Act by showing a caged bird and at one point killing and eating it. In this context, the Bangladesh Nature Conservation Alliance (BNCA) made a statement expressing concern about this on August 10 and the coordinated efforts of 33 organizations working on environment and nature in the country.

The members of the investigation committee formed by the Forest Department said that after going to the theater and watching the film, they found evidence of violation of the law.

Produced under Sun Music and Motion Pictures Limited and produced under Facecard Productions, ‘Hawa’ also stars Chanchal Chowdhury, Nazifa Tushi, Shariful Raj, Suman Anwar, Sohail Mondal, Nasir Uddin Khan, Rizvi Riju and others.
