A case has been filed alleging vote rigging in the Union Parishad elections by rigging Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). On Wednesday, a candidate named Nasir Uddin filed a case in Chittagong’s First Senior Assistant Judge’s Court seeking to declare the election results and published gazette illegal.

He was the rebel candidate of Awami League for the post of Chairman in Farhadabad Union of Hathajari Upazila held last June. On his behalf, some pro-BNP lawyers participated in the court hearing on Wednesday. Plaintiff’s lawyer Mohammad Hasan Ali Chowdhury said that he is waiting for the court order.

Elections were held in this union on June 15. The Election Commission declared Shaukat Alam the winner of the boat candidate who got 6 thousand 198 votes in the election. Nasir Uddin got 5 thousand 669 votes. General Secretary of Chittagong District Nationalist Lawyers Forum Mohammad Hasan Ali Chowdhury said that the vote of the candidate who came first in the election was shown in favor of candidate number four. And the vote of the person who got number four is shown in favor of the first candidate. Thus, the candidate who obtained number four through fraud has been declared the winner. The EVM machine has been tampered with by changing the command while declaring the final result.

Plaintiff Nasir Uddin said that he complained to the Election Commission, Regional Election Officer, District Election Officer and other offices after alleging election fraud. But the gazette was published on July 8 without addressing the complaint. So I was forced to go to court.
